Media Club of Ottawa - October 30th Meeting

Mario and I went to the Media Club of Ottawa on October 30th at the National Press Club to have supper and to hear Max Keeping, Vice-President of CTV news in Ottawa, give a speech entilted "Giving Back to the Community: The Role of the Media".

As a community-based television station, CTV Ottawa, has—since it started—aimed itself towards its audience of the greater Ottawa area in their news reporting, and in its great community support.

One of the main themes of Keeping's talk was the lack of women in leadership today in Ottawa. He sees most of the leadership as being male, and he would like to see that change to women being in leadership roles happen very quickly - yet he doesn't see it happen.

The first part of the evening included the Annual Margaret Graham Award, which was presented to Robert Walker, a student at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College, and to Jennifer Burden, a student at the University of Ottawa.

The awards were presented by Kimothy Walker, anchor and co-producer of the CTV Weekend News.

The next meeting is November 27th, when we will have four War Brides will talk of their experiences, as well as an Ottawa woman who will show her quilt, and an art historian talking about the Royal Canadian Legion Hall of Honour in the Canadian War Museum.
